How to use GoodReader on iPad?
GoodReader is an iOS application used to view documents in different formats, including .doc, .pdf, and .xls. It was released as primarily a PDF reader / “annotater” at first, but now has taken on a life of its own with ways to download files, sync with Dropbox, create, edit, and manage annotations on PDFs, and much more.
It is developed by Good.iWare Ltd., a company started by Yuri Selukoff, a Russian developer. It costs AU$9.99 for the app’s iPad version. GoodReader is available as an app that allows you to read, manage, organize, access, and annotate just about any file that you would want to.
How to use GoodReader on iPad?
To use GoodReader on iPad you first need to get the app from the app store. It’s not free so you need to pay about $10 to download the app from the app store.
The new release brings a brand new UI and PDF viewer, a continuous scrolling mode, 256-bit encryption, Split View support on iPad, Apple Pencil 2 support, Secure Photocopy redaction, and much more.
GoodReader works pretty much like your favorite file manager on a computer: the Finder on your Mac or Windows Explorer.
On the app when you open it the main screen shows you your entire file system. There you can browse your folders and find the file you need.
Various buttons on the Main Screen allow you to quickly find the file, manage it, and open it for reading.
The first thing you need to do is to import some files to the app.
File types you can open for reading: PDF, TXT, Pictures, Audio, Video, MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), iWork (Pages, NUmbers, Keynote), RTF, HTML, Webarchive.
To open file in GoodReader from Locations in the Files app tap the Manage Files button – then Import Files.
GoodReader offers a variety of ways to import and export files and folders, depending on where your files are located:
- Download files from external hosting services
- Download files from a computer on your local network
- Transmit files from your computer using iTunes and a USB cable
- Use a built-in web browser to find and download files
Besides reading, you can also edit PDF and TXT files. Powerful PDF Annotation and Markup tools allow you to write comments, draw paintings, fill forms, and sign documents.
With GoodReader, it’s easy to download PDF files from your computer, your hard drive, and cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud, and others. GoodReader can view other files types including TXT, HTML, and Microsoft Office formats. You can organize your files in folders. You can email individual files or zip together multiple files. You can open files in other apps that support Document Interchange. You can configure popular mail services like Gmail or IMAP or POP to browse mail messages that contain attachments and save them.
GoodReader offers you the ability to access different kinds of servers and email attachments as well.
Few ways to use GoodReader on iPad
Syncing documents with Dropbox: This feature allows you to sync an entire directory of documents from your Dropbox folder and with a decent WiFi or 3G connection you can keep documents and PDFs in sync with all of your other Dropbox enabled devices.
Better (paperless) meetings and discussions: Instead of printing out email and agendas for meetings you can create a PDF copy, upload it to Dropbox, email it to yourself or even sync it manually through iTunes. You can then open all documents that you need for the meeting or discussion and use GoodReader’s tabbed interface to view each document when you need it. Also you can make a new annotated copy or annotate the document directly and sync it back Dropbox.
Signatures: One of the quickest ways is to sign a digital document with GoodReader. Use the freehand drawing tool with your handy stylus zoom in, sign it, save it, and load it up to Dropbox or email it to whomever you need.
Showing things off: You can create PDFs, load them to Dropbox, and bring them down to GoodReader. You even go as far as including hyperlinks on interface buttons in the PDFs that will link to the next screen of the interface to show off the flow of the system.
Accessing Documents from (almost) anywhere: One of the greatest things that you can enjoy and use with GoodReader is its excellent file access options. You can always sync a folder or document with Dropbox, but you can also access documents from a ton of different places including mail servers and providers, your Google Docs account, box.net, a WebDAV server, and much more.
With GoodReader you can access Gmail account and see the entire list of attachments that have an @Action or Read/Review label. You can then quickly go through your list of attachments that need attention
You can also offload most of your photos to box.net, mostly because of your huge, free 50GB account. You can then access these photos from GoodReader and through email or Apple’s Document Interchange, do just about anything with them.
